A Glimpse of Glory

Sunday afternoon in the grand hall, under the star shine of the chandeliers, sipping the bubbly, and wandering the corridors of our symphony's home.

 Bold, distinctive tie choices.

Musicians warming up with beautiful instruments.  People wandering in to take their seats.  Quiet conversation and laughter.

THEN....

Beethoven's 5th.  At the very first notes all the mediocrity and smallness that clings to our lives is blown asunder and we can think and feel only greatness.  Musicians strive mightily with strings, horns, flutes, drums to show that greatness comes with a cost.  And I can only think:  "What a thing is man. That he can pull music out of the air as Beethoven did.  That we can hear that same music and respond in kind.  The great conversation...without saying a word.  And when the final note dies, we all rise in a shout to glory as if to say, You all heard it too?"  Blessed be God for the beauty he has given to us and who allows us to see behind the veil even for fleeting moments through the genius of music.
