{P,H,F,R} Land That I Love

Visiting the Lovely Daughter at college last week end, we made a trip to Washington D.C. to take in some sites.  We found ourselves meandering through the rooms of The Library of Congress, examining original maps of the United States, the Gutenberg Bible, statues, quotations from famous authors painted on the walls.  It was a magnificent place.  I was so struck by the fact that a whole culture was carved or painted or written in gold on the walls and ceilings.  How educated the world once was:  that possessing a whole body of knowledge was just assumed in those days.    Sometimes I feel as though that culture is fading away in our country.  I was so encouraged by this visit.  It made me want to learn more and know more and possess and remember books, poetry, paintings, historians, artists.  The Americans who built this place knew beauty and goodness and truth.  I silently saluted them in my heart.

{Pretty, or shall I say Beautiful}

The beauty of fall creeping into the mountains of West Virginia.  Our country is so beautiful!

  1. Beautiful photos. DC is such a great city to visit. We lived there for 11 years and tried to take full advantage of its offerings. Looks like you had a wonderful trip.
