{P,H,F,R} The Play's the Thing

{Pretty}
Sets!  I love sets!  My wonderful friend Julie helped me use all three of my handy dandy tubs of vines and flowers to bring Verona to life.  These, plus the "wedding package" pillars from a local wedding rental place and voila!!  So fun!  Everyone acts differently on a beautiful set.

{Happy}
Costumes.  Jewels of the Renaissance.  My favorite kind of colors.  We decided to color code the Capulets and the Montagues to keep them straight for the audience who hadn't seen this play before.  The Capulets were shades of red and the Montagues were blue.

The Capulets

The Montagues

The guards and The Prince of Verona

Good friend Benvolio

Benvolio, Mercutio, and Romeo

Guards!

Lady Capulet and her Cousin Tybalt

Lady Capulet, Juliet, and the Nurse

Lord Montague, The Prince, Lord Capulet

Friar Lawrence

Lord and Lady Montague

Lord and Lady Capulet

Romeo and his Juliet
The Angry Tybalt

{Funny}
They are all so shy and retiring aren't they?  NOT.

{Real}
Their first Shakespeare play accomplished.  My goal was to get them not to be afraid of the Bard and his GORGEOUS language.  They were timid at first, but then the magic happened....they started quoting the lines to each other in quite appropriate ways.  Now it is part of their mind and memory.  Hurrah! No better feeling for a teacher than this.

"For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo"

  1. Great photos! I love the sets and costumes - well done. And great thinking on the color coding - that would be really helpful (even for those who ARE familiar with the play)!
