The open road of Lent is calling this evening. It is time to walk into the desert tomorrow.
Forty days with Our Lord in the wilderness of our helpless sinfulness where the wind blows fierce and we are faced with our humanity.....and all its temptations and pitfalls...and God's glorious forgiveness.
Somehow today these words from The Narnian Chronicles keep going through my mind.
"You come of the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth. Be content."
We are such strange creatures. Made of dust with a glorious soul attached. And an Almighty Being of such loveliness is madly in love with us. He just can't let us go. He calls us to such greatness, but we have to get there through the cross...through our frailty..no way around it. Sometimes we spend a lot of time trying to find that other way, but there is nothing for it but to plunge in and take up the cross.....whatever that cross for us may be.
May we all find the cross that Jesus wants us to pick up and carry it through these days to the promise of resurrection at EASTER.
